Nigeria at 56 by Reuben Abati

Read his piece below... As Nigeria marks its 56th Independence Anniversary, very few Nigerians would expect any form of celebration or excitement. Independence from colonial rule in 1960 has brought the country so much to be cheerful about, but 56 years later, also a lot of regrets. I am not one of those who imagine that we would probably have been better off if we had remained under British rule, but that there are some Nigerians who still entertain such impossible thought indicates the depth of the people’s anxiety about Nigeria’s post-colonial reality. The big issues are well-known: the failure of leadership, corruption, and perpetual anxiety about the future. Every October 1, Nigeria is described as “a crippled giant”, a “toddler”, “a broken nation”. And the various editorials, year after year sound so repetitive as they focus on an economy that is not working, the failure of public infrastructure, leadership crisis, the bad habits of the political elite, religious and ethn

Employment Generation There is no doubt that the travel and tourism sector has provided much-needed jobs to Nigerians. There are hotels, hospitality spots and many tourists attractions that employ millions of Ni

Technology Create the ultimate wedding album using Google Photos

Image
A wedding is that beautiful ceremony where two people are united in marriage. Today, in Nigeria, a wedding ceremony is really a big deal and proper planning and a whole lot of preparations go into making sure that the day turns out as beautiful and memorable as it was envisioned by the bride and groom. Weddings are really dependent on budgets. The bride and groom either hires a professional wedding planner or they get help from friends and family to put together the wedding ceremony. A checklist is done; the wedding venue, guest list, the cake, caterer, don’t forget the “aso ebi” frenzy and so on are all planned for. Still, an essential item for any wedding ceremony has to be photography. Now, imagine having every detail in place for the wedding ceremony only to forget to hire a photographer to capture all the beautiful moments? Imagine having a wedding ceremony without capturing the beautiful moments on photos? That wouldn’t be a nice picture. It could turn a wedd

Who has seen 93 Days movie?

Image
This is a sponsored post but this part is me saying what I feel about the movie. 93 Days is the only Nigerian movie I have ever paid to go watch in Nigerian cinema and what a movie. Amazing cinematography, storytelling and acting. It's based on the story of the people who saved the lives of many Nigerians by containing Ebola that came to their hospital - First Consultant Medical Hospital and the hero, Dr Ameyo Adadevohwho made sure the Ebola Carrier, Liberian Patrick Sawyer didn't leave the hospital and spread the disease. Amazing movie. Now read their sponsored post after the cut...:-) Everybody is talking about the movie on Ebola, 93 Days. Someone said it’s the best Nigerian movie he has seen. Today, journalists and writer, Omolara Wood wrote glowing about it on Guardian, see it here .. Who has seen the movie? Should we pay to watch it? Is it truly the best Nigerian movie you have seen?
